Innovaccer’s journey started in 2011 when co-founders Abhinav Shashank (current Chief Executive Officer) and Kanav Hasija (current Chief Customer Officer) began a data analytics project at Wharton and Harvard University that focused on bringing distributed datasets together and applying analytical technologies to that data.
As part of the project, the duo researched how big data can be studied, crunched, and analyzed to derive valuable actionable insights. Soon, universities like Stanford and MIT took an interest in the research findings, and in 2014, Abhinav, Kanav, and Sandeep Gupta (current Chief Operating Officer) founded Innovaccer in Silicon Valley, California.
Initially, Innovaccer took on enterprise customers in the finance, healthcare, and retail sectors. However, the founding team soon realized that in order to spur a data-driven revolution, they must operate in an area small enough to narrow focus yet large enough to create an impact. Therefore, they decided to concentrate solely on the healthcare market.
Healthcare—an industry worth trillions of dollars—could not stay disconnected. This dilemma presented a huge opportunity to optimize care processes through the efficacious use of data. Powerful, data-driven insights could drastically and positively shift the way healthcare systems operate. The idea wasn’t to control care teams but to assist them in providing affordable quality care with support at each care point.
Innovaccer decided to focus solely on unifying healthcare delivery systems by helping health systems make their crucial IT systems—including EHRs, claims, labs, pharmacy, and more—interoperable. Innovaccer also enabled the integration of third-party external data, such as social determinants of health.
