Intermountain to Leverage General Catalyst’s Health Assurance Network
Intermountain Healthcare and venture capital firm General Catalyst have announced a collaboration to drive innovation across the Utah-based integrated health system with the goals of expanding value-based care, reducing total costs of care, providing world-class patient experiences, and achieving health equity objectives.
Intermountain will leverage Health Assurance Network, which is a group of tech innovation companies within General Catalyst’s investment portfolio. These companies include Transcarent, Olive, Sprinter Health, Commure, and Cadence, among others. They have in common that they are dedicated to delivering the best offering in their respective spaces, and collectively committed to helping healthcare systems transform themselves.
Last October, Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health announced a similar partnership with General Catalyst to tap the newly formed Health Assurance Network. That partnership is designed to help Jefferson accomplish its strategic priorities: modernizing Jefferson’s technology platform; diversifying revenue streams; and preparing it to lead as more care becomes digital and value-based.
Intermountain and General Catalyst said the collaboration will establish a rigorous process for identifying and scoping specific needs, assessing and co-developing feasible and effective solutions, and scaling those solutions across the health system.
Intermountain has helped launch other collaborative efforts, including Civica Rx and Graphite Health, and has helped establish a new Digital Hippocratic Oath to improve hospital data interoperability and secure patient privacy rights.
“We’ve historically been on the cutting edge of health innovation, especially when it comes to providing high-quality care that keeps people healthier at more affordable costs,” said Intermountain Healthcare President and CEO Marc Harrison, M.D., in a statement. “This collaboration between Intermountain and General Catalyst can help turbocharge the movement towards population health and value-based care by connecting us with a network of innovators outside the traditional healthcare space.”
