HCA Healthcare Identifies Meditech Expanse as Go-Forward EHR
HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest hospital systems, has signed a new agreement for a large-scale deployment of the Meditech Expanse electronic health record system. The agreement identifies Meditech Expanse as HCA Healthcare’s primary go-forward EHR platform
Expanse is expected to support Nashville-based HCA Healthcare’s efforts to provide clinicians with advanced decision support to enhance safety and quality. HCA manages 182 hospitals and over 2,300 sites of care across 20 states and the United Kingdom. As a learning health system, HCA Healthcare analyzes data across over 35 million patient encounters each year and shares their best practices across the larger healthcare community and government agencies to improve care.
Meditech and HCA Healthcare’s partnership was recently recognized by The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) with the distinguished 2021 CHIME Collaboration Award — an acknowledgment of their years of transforming and innovating together.
The organizations were recognized for several joint projects throughout their nearly 30 years of partnership. These wide-spanning initiatives have impacted many areas of HCA Healthcare, including quality management, lab, medication reconciliation, antimicrobial stewardship, dictionary management, and patient billing. One of their recent efforts was assisting with the development of the National Response Portal to leverage data insights to aid with COVID-19 pandemic challenges.
Meditech also said nine organizations licensed the Expanse cloud-based model in the third quarter of 2022. In the past four years, the cloud-based model was chosen by over 70 hospitals across 34 states and territories, the company said.
The cloud model offers advanced EHR capabilities without an upfront capital cost, and enables organizations to maintain their own autonomy by not tying into a larger health system, the company said.
Five of the nine healthcare organizations were new Meditech customers, replacing multiple vendor systems in place. These include Bingham Memorial Hospital (Blackfoot, ID), Manhattan Surgical Center (Manhattan, KS), Townsen Memorial Hospital (Humble, TX), the Bellevue Hospital (Bellevue, OH), Bradley County Medical Center (Warren, AR)
Organizations replacing their legacy Meditech systems with Expanse include Moore County Medical Center (Dumas, TX), Baker County Medical Services (McLenny, FL), Russell Medical Center (Alexander City, AL), Columbia County Health System (Dayton, WA).
