Hospitals Recognized for Patient Safety Endeavors
In an April 9 press release, District of Columbia-based Health Transformation Alliance (HTA), a cooperative of large U.S. employers; District of Columbia-based non-profit organization and HTA member The Leapfrog Group; and San Diego-based Turquoise Health “announced the recognition of 472 hospitals for their efforts in demonstrating excellence in patient safety through The Leapfrog Group.”
Furthermore, the hospitals were recognized for their adherence to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) Hospital Price Transparency Rule as evaluated by Turquoise Health.
Two thousand seven hundred thirty hospitals received a Leapfrog Safety Grade rating, of which the recognized ones received the highest grade on patient safety. Additionally, Turquoise Health gave them a 5-star rating on price transparency. HTA underscored the need for more improvement in the healthcare system, seeing as the honored hospitals represent less than 20 percent of all hospitals.
“Our goal is for all hospitals in America’s health care system to meet the standards these hospitals have met – it should be the norm, not the exception,” said Robert E. Andrews, HTA CEO, in a statement.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is updated twice yearly and is commonly used by health plans and vendors to inform users of their hospital choice. Turquoise Health advocates for price transparency. According to the news release, “Only 57 percent of hospital systems currently earn top scores from Turquoise Health.”
The HTA published a complete list of hospitals that were recognized for their accomplishments.
