Jones Memorial Hospital, a 70-bed acute care facility in Wellsville, N.Y., is in the final stages of bringing its computer systems back online after a cyberattack last week.

In an announcement posted to its website, Jones Memorial stated that work on the impacted systems is nearly complete, and “Jones clinicians are working with our IT team to conduct system checks prior to resuming full operational status.”

“As previously reported, a limited number of Jones Memorial Hospital information services have been offline in previous days due to a cyberattack.  Information Technology experts from Jones have partnered with IT professionals from the University of Rochester, Noyes, and St. James hospitals to address the problem. We have also worked with Meditech, our vendor for patient Electronic Medical Record systems. The leadership of Jones appreciates their dedication and hard work in helping to restore our systems,” the hospital stated in its announcement.

The hospital did not specify the exact nature of the outages or the type of cyberattack.

A local news station, WIVB News 4 from Buffalo, reported on the cyberattack on the hospital December 27 and reported that the issue is isolated to Jones Memorial Hospital’s computer system.

Hospital officials said that during the downtime the hospital has been using standard computer downtime procedures which they “regularly train and prepare for,” including manually entering information into patient medical charts while some of our systems are off-line.

Until all systems are restored, we ask that patients using JMH services or clinics to bring their insurance card, their complete medications list, and any available medical history with them to any visits.

“We continue to believe that no patient financial or medical information has been compromised, and have been in contact with law enforcement and the New York State Department of Health since the downtime began. This issue is isolated to Jones Memorial Hospital's computer systems,” Jones Memorial Hospital officials stated.
