The state-designated entity for health information exchange (HIE) in Michigan will now be able to share data across state lines with provider organizations in the Hoosier State.
Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN), an HIE provider organization located in South Bend Ind., has become Michigan Health Information Network's (MiHIN) latest qualified data sharing organization (QO). This means MHIN's member organizations will be able to access the patient data of MiHIN's member organizations--including providers, hospitals, and public health agencies. MHIN has members in both Indiana and Michigan.
"The northern Indiana and south central Michigan region is a vital part of Michigan's economy, and MHIN has built an impressive network and community to promote health information sharing," Tim Pletcher, MiHIN's executive director, said in a statement. "MHIN's participation with MiHIN brings us a step closer to a comprehensive shared network not only in Michigan, but in areas that support and accommodate Michiganders throughout the Midwest."
In September of last year, Michiana announced data sharing capabilities with another Michigan HIE, Michigan Health Connect.
