Officials from Chicago-based health IT vendor Allscripts have attested that the company has reached a new milestone— one billion application programming interface (API) data exchange transactions in 2017.

To date, the Allscripts Developer Program (ADP) has certified nearly 200 distinct applications and devices for its users, all currently available through the company’s application store. According to the vendor’s officials, “APIs help Allscripts clients rapidly implement and deploy innovative solutions developed by independent software developers. Allscripts clients also use the APIs for their own internal development and integration projects.”

Additional figures from the Developer Program include: 1,580 client activations of third-party API solutions as of Oct. 31, 2017; more than 3 billion API data shares since 2013; and an average of 12,000 unique visitors to the Allscripts app store site each month.

In a statement, Paul M. Black, Allscripts CEO said, “To reach one billion data shares in one year is incredibly exciting for both Allscripts and the more than 6,600 developers using our APIs. It demonstrates that OPEN is working,” adding, “There is an industry-wide call for open health data exchange through APIs, which are a highly cost-effective approach to interoperability.”
