April 10, 2014
On April 10, the AP reported that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius would announce her resignation on April 11, and that President Obama would nominate Sylvia Mathews Burwell, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, to replace her

Shortly after 6:30 PM eastern time on Thursday, April 10, the Associated Press reported that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius would announce her resignation on Friday, April 11. That same report indicated that Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who has been Director of the Office of Management and Budget since late April 2013, will be nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Secretary Sebelius.

Shortly afterward, ABC News' Jeff Zeleny reported that ABC News had confirmed the development.

In March 2013, just as news was breaking that President Obama was about to nominate Mathews Burwell to head OMB, the Washington Post’s Dylan Matthews wrote a “Wonkblog” article about her. Here is a link to that article.

Sylvia Mathews Burwell

According to the Wikipedia entry on her, Mathews Burwell, 49, received a bachelor’s degree in government, cum laude, from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. Among other former positions prior to assuming the leadership post at OMB, she served as deputy chief of staff to President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 1998, chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin from 1995 to 1997, and staff director for the National Economic Council from 1993 to 1995.
