Bryan Sivak, the chief technology officer of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is stepping down from his role, according to multiple media reports.

Sivak came to the federal government in 2012 after being chief innovation officer for the State of Maryland, taking over for Todd Park. Sivak’s time in the government was a continuation of Park’s philosophies of freeing de-identified data for the development of innovative technologies. Often, those developments were spurred by challenges, such as the one HHS announced in April of last year. He also launched the internal collaboration initiative at HHS in attempt to create new concepts.

"Since joining us in 2012, Bryan has been a force for promoting innovation across the department, designing and deploying initiatives that improve the performance of the department for those we serve, and for our employees," HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell wrote in an email staff, according to FCW. "Bryan has championed some of the department’s most innovative projects."

It’s unclear who will replace Sivak both temporarily and permanently.
