Geisinger Expands Relationship With Cerner on Population Health Platform
Speaking at the National Association of ACOs meeting in September, Tony Reed, associate vice president for accountable care initiatives at Geisinger Health System, described the value of introducing a population health software platform to its Keystone Accountable Care Organization. “Once we had physician practice partners feeding data into the HIE, we are able to start pushing data to the population health software and create provider scorecards, registries and dashboards," Reed said. "Now we aggregate and normalize data and show providers where they are strong and weak and where care gaps are. They understand the data. It used to be that the quality activity started at the end of year. Now they monitor it all year long.”
Now Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger has announced a new 10-year agreement with Cerner to expand its use of the HealtheIntent population health platform.
After using the platform for four years, the integrated health system plans to extend the Cerner platform across its clinical enterprise, ACO and Geisinger Health Plan. It said the expanded relationship will leverage open standards and integration capabilities to provide a seamless, integrated, user experience and help support care management, wellness services, population health management and consumer engagement strategies.
Geisinger said it would work with Cerner to form an integrated team to develop solutions and new commercial capabilities, including advanced AI and machine learning. “Expanding our relationship with Cerner and leveraging its capabilities across our health network will help create a better, seamless experience for our clinicians and help improve the personalized care we provide patients,” said Karen Murphy, Ph.D., R.N., Geisinger’s executive vice president, chief innovation officer and founding director of the Steele Institute for Healthcare Innovation, in a statement. “We expect to see continued and significant growth over the next decade as we work together toward innovation that shapes the future of health care.”
